From artwork to print: what changes the result

A practical guide to print surfaces, ink systems, color and finishing—so you can ask better questions before approving a job.

Begin with where the print will live

A sign outdoors, a sticker on packaging and a fabric display have different requirements. Tell MAGV the surface, environment, expected use and removal needs. Those details help determine a suitable material and finish before the artwork goes to production.

Three parts work together

The printable material, ink and printer settings must be compatible. Roland describes eco-solvent systems for media such as vinyl and paper, and UV systems for flexible media, rigid materials and objects. These are industry processes; they are not a promise that every MAGV product uses the same machine or ink.

Printed graphics and cut graphics differ

A printed graphic puts an image onto its media. A cut-vinyl graphic uses a cutter to create shapes or lettering from film, often with transfer material for application. A job may combine processes. Ask how fine details, gradients or small lettering will be produced on the particular material you have selected.

Color depends on the whole job

The monitor, artwork, ink and material affect the color you see. A design viewed on a bright screen will not look identical on every surface. Use the requested file settings, supply brand references when color matters and ask about a physical proof or sample before a critical production run.

Finishing is part of the specification

Lamination, cutting, mounting, hems and hardware can change how the product looks and is used. Confirm which steps are included in the selected configuration. A material’s stated performance applies under its manufacturer’s conditions; avoid treating one brand’s instructions as universal for all films.

A better quote starts with five details

Send the finished size, quantity, intended location, required date and usable artwork. Add surface photos when installation is involved. Ask for the exact material, finish and care guidance in the final specification. That conversation is more useful than choosing a process by name without considering the job.

Manufacturer references explain their own materials and systems. They do not mean every MAGV product uses that brand or that MAGV holds a manufacturer certification. Confirm the actual specification and current instructions for your order.
